How did the two of you meet?

Chemistry class, we were lab partners and had good chemistry J

Describe the proposal.

Just before a huge storm hit, he took me to a lake to walk our dog.  With all the static electricity, my hair was actually starting to stand up.  While I was trying to keep my hair down, Michael got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  Filled with embarrassment and elation all at the same time, I said yes and it started to rain on us.  I will never forget my first time being kissed in the rain.   Where he proposed…

Theme of the wedding?

Simply wedding, black and white with light green accent.

Favorite detail of the wedding?

Sparkler exit (Thanks to Hendri’s) and having Liz as a photographer.

She was phenomenal and caught all the best moments for us to remember.

Favorite moment during the day?

Seeing Michael for the first time that day.  I was so nervous about everything going well, and seeing him calmed me down.

Worse moment of the day?

Rushing through make-up to get to pictures on time.

Finding the dress…

I didn’t want to take it off.

Biggest challenge you had with planning the wedding?

Living in Columbia, MO and planning a wedding in St. Louis, MO.

Words of wisdom to future brides.

A great photographer was objective number one for us.  They find the beauty in every situation.

Any unexpected funny moments?

So many good laughs were had that day.  From my mom sticking her hand up the rear of my dress to hide the extra ties (with no warning!) (Liz caught that moment) and watching Michael’s 10 year old cousin bust out some dance moves during the reception.

How was your wedding day? Everything and more?

Perfect.

How did the two of you meet?

One beautiful fall night on Mimosa Ct. in Columbia, Missouri, our paths unexpectedly crossed and our lives changed forever. He was enjoying an evening with his friends at his apartment and I was sitting on a step outside of my brother’s apartment (they were next door neighbors).  I was having a bit of a bad night after accidentally letting my brother’s roommate’s cat outside and was taking a break sitting on the step when suddenly I saw this handsome guy walking around the corner of the building. As he approached, I couldn’t help but to let out a big smile and introduce myself. He introduced himself and explained that he was looking for his friend that had gone mysteriously missing. We continued our respective searches together, hand in hand. With no luck finding the cat, we said our goodbyes and I went back to my brother’s apartment without even exchanging numbers. But, we then started a new search for each other, on Facebook that is, and three months later we started officially dating. And the rest is history...

Describe the proposal.

On a Saturday morning, Kyle said he had to go run some errands. I thought it was a bit weird that he was in such a hurry to run errands so early in the morning on a weekend. When he came back I was in the shower so he told me to hurry up because we were going on a getaway weekend so I had to pack some clothes. He took me by surprise so I got super excited (I like surprises!!) and started asking a lot of questions. He just told me to pack for 2 days. He drove for over an hour and I honestly had no idea where we were going! Suddenly I saw a sign for Hermanhoff, so I thought we were going to the winery and possibly might stay at a hotel close by. When we arrived, we pulled up to a really nice local bed and breakfast. I thought it was going to be interesting staying at a bed and breakfast, but not very private.  When he came out with a key and said we weren’t staying at the actual bed and breakfast, I never imagined the awesome place he was actually taking me…to our private chalet. It was so pretty! We spent the afternoon at the winery but the 110 degree weather made us leave after one bottle of wine. We decided to go back to the chalet and drink a second bottle on our patio. I remember we were talking about us and how cool it was to be spending some time, just the two of us, and I asked Kyle the silly question I often ask, even though I know the answer, "do you love me?" Suddenly he got down on one knee and said "yes, in fact you are most important person in life (just in the moment he started getting on his knee I started crying of nervousness and excitement) and I want to ask you Angelica Mariana Cruz Galve, if you will marry me." I hugged him and said YES! It was an awesome feeling I will never forget.

Favorite detail of the wedding?

Our Mizzou Tiger shot luge with my favorite shot, Gummi Bears! It was just simply awesome!

Favorite moment during the day?

There were too many great moments, but the one that we keep thinking about as being really special is how it felt like we were the only two people in the entire church when we said our vows to each other.

Worst moment of the day?

The aftermath of Hurricane Isaac was passing through St. Louis the weekend of our wedding. I woke up to a news report that it was going to be the most rainy day that St. Louis has had in years and it made me so sad! Then I peeked out the window and saw the sun glistening through a break in the clouds. It rained off and on all day, but every time we needed the rain to stop it did, from going into the church, taking pictures by the arch, and entering the reception hall!!

Finding the dress…

My mom lives in New York so she came here for a weekend to help me find my dress. I was really hoping find it while she was in town so for days before, I had searched online and eventually saw a couple of Sottero and Midgley dresses I really liked. There was one specific dress that I fell in love with immediately but when we went to the bridal store, they didn’t have it! I tried a really similar one and I decided I loved the mermaid style. Even though, I liked the one I tried on, I felt that the one I saw online was the one. So I took the risk and decided to go with the one online even though I didn’t even ever try it on. Months later, when my dress finally arrived, I was really nervous to get fitted because I have no clue what I would have done if this dream dress didn’t look very good on me or didn’t give me that feeling of “the one.” But, the moment that I tried it on I loved it even more. I’m still in love with my dress!

Biggest challenge you had with planning the wedding?

Planning a wedding that was convenient for our guests, the majority who traveled from out of town to be there with us, was definitely the most challenging part. Also, having my parents and most of our wedding party miles away made us have to lean on each other more to get everything done, but made us even closer in the process!

Words of wisdom to future brides.

It may sound cliché, but enjoy every single step of the planning because the wedding day flies by in one big blur. And, don’t get too overwhelmed with everything….always remember the most important thing….you will be marrying the love of your life! Breathe and enjoy this special stage of your lives!

Any unexpected funny moments?

When it was time for the garter toss, we couldn’t find Kyle (he was “mingling” with the crowd).  When he finally appeared, I realized I had never put the garter on! I had to go to a side of the room with my bridesmaids making a little wall to block everyone from seeing me put it on. While I put it on, the DJ announced to the crowd “it looks like we have a slight wardrobe malfunction!” It was funny!

How was your wedding day? Everything and more?

Everything went perfect and smooth! We were surrounded by our loved ones, who travelled great distances to be with us during that magic day. It was awesome realizing how every single detail we thought of for our wedding came together fabulously. And, it felt awesome to have the relief of all the stress exiting our bodies and to have the feeling that “we are finally married!!!”

Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century.
